Centennial Lecture Series
As part of a series of events to mark the Centennial of the foundation of the original Department of Geology in 1912, the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is organizing monthly seminars intended for a student audience throughout 2012. These seminars will be delivered by Alumni and Friends of the Department and will be held on Wednesdays at noon during term time.
The invited speakers have built careers in different sectors of the economy and represent the range of areas of society where the department’s alumni are making an impact. Speakers have been asked to talk about their own careers, how they got into doing what they do, how their academic background helped them get there, what they still had to learn after they left University, what is the current state of the sector in which they work, what opportunities it offers to our students, and how ongoing changes in the sector are changing these opportunities and the skill sets that students will need to exploit them.
